ISO 10464

Information about ISO 14064

The ISO 14064 series of standards consists of three standards. ISO 14064-1 is the basis for accounting for a company’s greenhouse gas emissions, i.e. for establishing its corporate carbon footprint (CCF). The standard provides information on the principles and requirements for planning, developing and reporting GHG inventories within a company.

The ISO 14064-1 standard helps you to record your company’s GHG emissions in a structured way and to work specifically on reducing your carbon footprint. It provides the framework for GHG accounting and its verification. Thus, ISO 14064-1 is at the same time the basis for robust reporting. In this way, you create the basis for making your organization’s efforts and success in climate protection visible, while communicating them.

The other parts of the ISO 14064 series of standards are:

ISO 14064-2 is a guide that can be used to record the removal of greenhouse gases or the reduction of emissions at the project level.

ISO 14064-3 forms the basis for the verification of CO2 accounting. After successful verification, DQS uses this standard as a basis to certify that the relevant requirements for balancing emissions have been met.

Who is corporate carbon footprint (CCF) verification based on ISO 14064 suitable for?

The option of CCF verification is open to companies in all sectors and organizations such as municipalities, public authorities or associations. It is aimed at anyone who wants to make a contribution to climate protection, increase confidence in communicating their CO2 footprint, and improve their external image by focusing on sustainability and climate management. Finally, verification takes into account at an early stage any expected future legal and customer-specific requirements.

What are the benefits of an ISO 14064 verification?

The effects of climate change are already unmistakable today. In order to reverse the trend, all social forces are called upon to make their contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG). At the same time, political pressure on companies and organizations has been growing since the Paris Agreement on climate protection. The ISO 14064 series of standards offers the following benefits for your company:

  • You create trust in your company and increase your credibility with customers.
  • For stakeholders, business partners, customers or investors, quantifying GHG emissions and reporting them is evidence that you perceive climate protection as a corporate responsibility.
  • You make climate protection part of your corporate culture.
  • You identify control levers with which you can reduce your organization’s carbon footprint and sensitize your employees to the relevance of this issue.
  • You gain transparency in the reduction of GHG emissions.
  • With verification by an independent third party such as DQS, your organization’s progress in the effort to reduce GHG emissions along the value chain based on an internationally recognized standard becomes transparent.
  • Verification sets you apart from competitors who have not yet gone down this path. At the same time, you take into account possible legal and customer-specific requirements at an early stage.

ISO 50001

What is energy management according to the ISO 50001 standard?

ISO 50001 serves as the basis for the introduction of an energy management system (EnMS). The central component of the standard is an energy planning process that defines energy targets and action plans and records all energy flows in detail. On this basis, certified companies can continuously improve their energy-related performance. The implementation of legal requirements brings additional security of action.

The most important prerequisites for successful energy management are the systematic recording of energy flows, energy evaluation, and suitable monitoring mechanisms. When implementing ISO 50001, it is your organization’s task to tailor the requirements in the field of energy management to your own needs, to implement measures in a targeted manner, and to improve them continuously.

Who is ISO 50001 Consulting suitable for?

Saving energy is important for every company – regardless of type and size. Thus, ISO 50001 Consulting is suitable for companies and service providers in all industries that want to optimize their energy management, thus saving costs and cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions.

ISO 50001:2018 is not aimed at any specific industry. However, it makes particular sense to introduce a management system in accordance with the energy management standard if you are an energy-intensive company. These are often subject to numerous legal requirements and can meet the required framework conditions with a certified energy management system. In this way, they not only protect the climate, but can also take advantage of subsidies and save taxes under certain conditions, for example with the peak compensation according to the German SpaEV orĀ  the Energy Services Act (EDL-G).

Why does Consulting according to ISO 50001 make sense?

Through the use and Consulting of an EnMS, significant and virtually costless savings potential is often achieved through simple organizational measures. In addition, the significant energy use (SEU) of plants, systems and facilities is specified again within the scope of Consulting, in that specific criteria must be determined for each area.

For companies that obtain Consulting, the international standard provides even more competitive advantages:

  • Continuous improvement of energy-related performance
  • Continuous monitoring of energy flows
  • Systematic reduction of energy consumption and energy costs
  • Consistent compliance with legal requirements
  • Permanent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
  • Reduced dependence on energy imports
  • Recognized basis for possible tax incentives
